Loss Prevention Corner

"Loss Prevention Corner" is a compilation of hundreds of practical tips to help you reduce your chances of having a loss, or to minimize your damage if you do. The tips are divided into categories such as Fire, Water Damage, Burglary, Identity Theft, and many more!

Baby-proofing

1.

Think ahead of your child's current developmental stage, so you can eliminate items and situations that will prove hazardous at the next stage.

2.

Always keep a hand on your baby at the changing table, because the first roll-over might happen during a diaper change.

3.

Consider putting carpet or padding around the crib and changing tale to cushion a fall if it occurs despite your efforts.

4.

Unused electrical outlets should be covered.

5.

Stove guards should be used. When cooking, turn pot handles toward the back of the stove.

6.

Safety locks should be installed on all lower-level cabinet doors and drawers.

7.

Stairs should be blocked off with safety gates.

8.

Houseplants should be moved out of reach.

9.

Cut the blind cord as short as possible, tack it up high and out of reach, or cut the bottom cord loop to reduce the danger.

10.

Keep track of your medications. To be safe, keep on hand a bottle of ipecac syrup and telephone numbers for a poison control center.

11.

"Kiddie pools” should be emptied when not in use and stored in a safe place.

12.

Install lid locks on toilets.

13.

Beware of plastic bags, balloons, toys with small parts, alcohol and cigarettes, matches and lighters, knives and guns.

DISCLAIMER

During my 27 years as a Property and Casualty Insurance Agent in the Greater Boston area, I have been collecting, from many sources, lists of dos and don'ts related to various areas of Loss Prevention (also known as "Risk Management"). "Loss Prevention Corner' is a compilation of those Risk Management tips that we offer as POSSIBLE SUGGESTIONS. Each of these tips may or may not be appropriate at all times, since every situation is different. The tips are here for your consideration. You must decide which of them is right for you.
